What's in here?" We were standing in front of Oldfield House, the place that has been my spiritual home in the school: and it was utterly new to them.

At one point, they all stopped and declared, "Wow. After a few minutes, one of the Old Boys turned around and asked, "Have you still got a school goat?" Well, as you can imagine, I was rather surprised and my surprise was only heightened by the ensuing, quite animated, conversation about old Demelza! And the Old Boys continued to surprise me as we walked around, by looking in wonderment at buildings that I could not imagine the school without.

The only thing that makes tours a little tedious, at times, is the fact that you always get asked the same questions: "What are you studying? How do you like the school? How do the boys get on with one another?" So I was expecting that kind of thing. Now, I've been conducting tours pretty much since I came to the school and it's always an interesting thing to do. Gilbert, Faisal and I were acting as tour guides to Old Boys and pointing out developments that the school had undergone in recent years. Kevin Riley HeadmasterĤ 10 weeks ago, the Headmaster asked me to help out at a '30 Years On' dlbout Old Lyonians' get-together. It is a remarkable community - a model for the 21 st century in London. At the end of 2008 we said goodbye to four longserving and highly valued members of staff (pictured below): Bob Shaw, Roger French, Graham Ryder and Paricia Waldron. Education and Exam Results are not synonymous! The expedition to India was a particular highlight but I am sure all the boys in the school can be proud of a personal goal achieved during the year. We strongly believe that a well rounded education will result in boys obtaining excellent exam results and that was certainly the case this year. 2007/08 was an excellent year for the school, rounded off by some outstanding examination results. It is also good to read so many excellent examples of interesting and varied articles many a writing career has begun on the school magazine. The quiet in the school when the magazine arrives and the boys read it bears testimony to their interest in it. The editorial team at JLS, led by Kate Wickson, manages this brilliantly. It is a difficult task to edit such a magazine because it must reconcile being 'a good read' with the need to the official record of the school. "It has been a pleasure to watch all the colleagues grow.3 From t e Hea master d t is always a pleasure to write for the school magazine, particularly one that is as interesting and informative as The Lyonian. Her positivity breeds through the team and has helped them have a consistent standard of delivery throughout the challenging time. SMP Fiona McGrevey said: "From day one, Jade has had such a positive attitude which continues every day. Jade joined the team at Armadale during the COVID-19 pandemic as a twilight colleague. Warehouse Shift Manager Rachel Green said: "It was an absolute pleasure to lead this amazing team in such unprecedented times."
